5-year-old Junior Kindergarten

Age requirement:

  • Children must be five years old by August 15th of the school year you wish to attend.  Children in this classroom are old enough to attend state mandated Kindergarten, however, they are placed in this class to give them an additional year to grow academically, socially, or emotionally prior to entering Kindergarten.

5 Jr. Kindergarten is a transition class. This means that the child is old enough to go to 5 Sr. Kindergarten but is not quite ready for the expectations of that program.

For example:

  • A child who does not separate from caregivers easily
  • A child who does not have proper self-control
  • A child who is not academically or socially ready for 5 Sr. Kindergarten
  • A child who might simply benefit from one more year to mature before beginning Sr. Kindergarten

The benefits of this class are that the lessons are tailored to the individual student's specific needs of improvment while encouraging them to continue to advance academically.  In other words, advanced material is provided for students as they are ready to move on to more challenging work. Once this program is complete, the student will advance to Sr. Kindergarten.
