Curriculum
Abeka
The following information is from Abeka:
Overview
The Abeka Book curriculum is based on results from reliable studies for traditional best practices and is validated by the measured success of thousands of students over decades of time. The educational approach is founded on biblical principles that address the nature of the learner and learning, the nature of truth and authority, and what is important to learn and know. Children are presented opportunities to enjoy art as they develop motor skills, develop eye-hand coordination, and follow directions. Children are introduced to letters, numbers, and the world around them. A love for language through poetry and finger plays and a love for music with fun songs is incorporated throughout the curriculum. 2-Year-Old Preschool
Math: The goal is for children to count from 1-25 and recognize numbers 1-10. In addition to number recognition and one-to-one correspondence, fine motor skills, such as coloring, painting and gluing, are also developed while completing these pages.
Peabody Early Experiences Kit (PEEK): PEEK is a comprehensive curriculum published by American Guidance Services that incorporates skill development in the following areas: classification, cooperation, logical thinking, movement, naming, oral expression, problem solving, sequencing, sharing, sorting, taking turns, and expressive and receptive vocabulary. The lessons are arranged in spiral sequence to reinforce new concepts as well as to provide for a range of difficulty levels. Activities are classified by 17 content areas, such as colors, body parts, and numbers as well as cognitive, social and linguistic domains.
3-Year-Old Preschool
Math: Button Bear helps children sharpen their listening skills, practice following directions, and practice eye-hand coordination as they learn number concepts 1-15. In addition to number recognition and one-to-one correspondence, fine motor skills, such as coloring, painting and gluing, are also developed while completing these pages.
Writing: Children enjoy tracing pathways, doing dot to dot, and coloring large, simple forms on the skill sheets to develop fine motor skills. Letters and Sounds
Phonics: This beginning A-B-C book helps young children recognize letter shapes and learn letter sounds. Activities include using finger paint, glue, crayons, and writing practice.
4-Year-Old Pre- Kindergarten
Math: Introduces number concepts and the formation of numbers 1-20. Children enjoy counting and coloring familiar objects for each number and forming the numbers. In addition to number recognition and one-to-one correspondence, fine motor skills, such as coloring, painting and gluing, are also developed while completing these pages.
Phonics: Phonics-based reading readiness pages are full of carefully sequenced activities in recognition, sound, and formation of vowels (long and short), consonants, consonant-vowel blends, and one-syllable words of one or two vowels.
Writing: Writing tablet correlated with K4 phonics curriculum and ABC 123. Students will be tracing and practicing letter formation on the colorful pages. Pages have activities that help with recognition, sound, and formation of vowels, consonants, blends, and one and two vowel words.
Kindergarten program
Math: Our Kindergarten program students are taught Tennessee State PreK standards using hands-on, meaningful teaching strategies based on assessment results. Children progress at their own pace and are encouraged to construct higher order thinking skills. Math skills include but are not limited to: oral counting, skip counting, basic addition and subtraction, telling time, ordering numbers, quantifying sets, and much more!
Phonics and Writing: Colorful pages designed to give students practice in manuscript writing while reviewing phonics sounds, blends, one and two vowel words. Used for second semester independent work.
Reading: Delightfully illustrated little books start with very basic vowel sounds and go on to consonants, blends, words, and simple sentences. Each book is short enough for a child to complete in one or two sessions. Includes delightful pictures for the child to color and activity pages for review. Classroom Lesson Plans Weekly lesson plans incorporate Abeka curriculum aspects as well as center and classroom activities centered around a monthly unit and weekly theme. Lesson plans indicate weekly skills and concepts for children to explore, learn, and develop in various activities each day.

Age requirement:

Description:
5 Jr. Kindergarten is a transition class. This means that the child is old enough to go to 5 Sr. Kindergarten but is not quite ready for the expectations of that program.

A child who does not have proper self-control
A child who is not academically or socially ready for 5 Sr. Kindergarten
A child who might simply benefit from one more year to mature before beginning Sr. Kindergarten
The benefits of this class are that the lessons are tailored to the individual student's specific needs of improvment while encouraging them to continue to advance academically. In other words, advanced material is provided for students as they are ready to move on to more challenging work. Once this program is complete, the student will advance to Sr. Kindergarten.

Central Parent's Day Out is open during the school year, closes for holidays, and summer, fall, and spring breaks, and offers preschool care from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
How do I enroll my child in Central Learning Center?
The first step in enrolling your child is to plan a tour. Email us at clc@centralchurch.com to ask about availability.
Can my child move ahead a year if I feel he/she is accelerated? Or can my child be given an assessment to skip a class?
No, we must adhere to our birth date entrance requirements for each age group to ensure your child will be old enough to enter Kindergarten.
What does "fully potty trained" mean?
Our definition of fully potty trained means your child wears regular underwear the entire day, including nap time. It also means your child can take care of all his/her needs independently, including wiping. Our staff will help children zip and snap pants, but will not go into the restroom with children.
Are you a peanut-free center?
No, all children bring their lunch from home each day. We are happy to allow your child to sit at a table where no other children are eating items that contain peanuts.
Do you have a scholarship or tuition assistance program?
No, we do not.
What are my options to pay my fees?
Fees can be paid by cash, check, money order, debit and credit card in person, and auto-draft.
Does Central Learning Center provide lunch for my child?
No, each child brings a ready-to-eat lunch from home in a lunch box each day. We encourage you to use an ice pack to keep food cold, or a thermos to keep food warm as we cannot warm up or refrigerate food. We provide water at lunch.
Does Central Learning Center provide snacks for my child?
Yes, we provide a morning and afternoon snack with water. The snack menu is posted monthly in each classroom.
